Scrap the magazine for starters
On September 13 your lead article stated "County authority's budget could see inflation busting 4.7 per cent rate rise" and low and behold the next day the county council's local magazine arrives through my letter box.
Within minutes this and the junk literature with it was confined to the waste bin thereby increasing the percentage of waste recycled by my local authority.
If Shirehall is intent on effecting economies then I suggest a good place to start is the elimination of this publication, but then perhaps it is the result of a John Prescott or Euro directive.
I have asked the chief executive to advise and justify the cost of publishing and distributing this unnecessary material.
