Access to Quarry was possible

I read the letter from two ladies referring to access restrictions to The Quarry whilst the Shrewsbury Folk Festival took place. It would appear from this letter that entry to The Quarry and The Dingle was not possible unless the price of entry to the festival was paid.

This was not actually the case. The Quarry could be entered by all as could The Dingle, albeit by a slightly circuitous route.

The area not accessible was the area which was fenced off for the festival itself but throughout the weekend I saw many people passing through The Quarry and also strolling in The Dingle, without attending the festival.

Whilst your correspondents may take issue with the use of parts of The Quarry for this event, and they are entitled to express an opinion on that, it would be sensible to state the facts rather than alter them to support a point of view.

I am sure there will be much debate concerning the use of The Quarry for this and other events.

Unfortunately use of any part of The Quarry for any activity requiring paid entry does restrict somebody else's ability to enjoy that area for the duration of that event.

The only way to avoid that is to halt all such events, including our marvellous Shrewsbury Flower Show.

From my own perspective, the festival was superbly organised, provided tremendous entertainment, benefited our town traders and greatly enhanced the cultural life of our town.
