Cyclist not entitled to slow traffic

Much has been written about the cyclist who appeared at court recently, much of it by people who believe he was accused of riding on the road instead of the cycle path. The Shropshire Star report clearly said at the time that he was accused of riding without reasonable consideration for other road users, in that he was riding at about 20mph in the middle of the road.

He was holding up drivers who, even in this modern world, are still entitled to drive above that sort of speed.

The cycle path had nothing to do with the case, and the report would probably have been clearer if it had not been mentioned.

Now that the police have discovered that cyclists are subject to the law, we shall be looking forward to action in respect of lights, footpaths, traffic lights, one-way streets and so on.
