Paying for free satellite tracking

Your item on August 25 about the benefits which the Galileo satellite system will bring omitted a few points. I suppose the government handout wouldn't point out that this commercial EU system is essentially the same as the free American GPS system which has been available for a few years.

We shall need those job-creation schemes to help us to pay for the satellite system, but the work won't be here, it'll be outsourced to India or wherever, by firms which probably won't be British-owned.

Unlike the free American system, this one is to be paid-for by commercial usage - that means compulsory road charging for instance and aircraft will be required to use it in EU airspace, even though they already have the GPS system.

How long before your identity card will notify the spies as soon as you leave your house?

Despite government protestations, this is designed to military requirements, too - very necessary because the EU is determined to drive the wedge further in between us and America.

The official line is that the American system might be switched to military-use only in the event of hostilities, the truth must surely be that "our" system will have the same capability.

There really is only one way out of this mess - leave the EU before it's too late.
