France is seeking to rule us all

France has committed just 200 troops to the UN force earmarked for Lebanon; George Bush has more security men than that tasting his cornflakes. This derisory offer is a petulant and cynical insult to the US president by President Chirac. France does not do "united" as in United Nations, neither does it do "union" as in European Union.

It wants to lead but does not want to follow; it wants the benefits but does not want the costs. France's priority is France.

France was a founding member of the EEC, but in a union of 25 countries France is incongruous, like a boil on a billiard table. It does not want to debate and compromise, it wants to rule.

What France wants for the European Union is the French justice system, social order, economic and foreign policy and language and what is more it is steadily and surely getting there courtesy of incompetent British politicians and over generous British taxpayers.

This taxpayer says: Enough. Get us out of this French benefit society and rejoin the British Legion.
