Leniency for officer so wrong
I have never felt the need or compulsion to write to a newspaper before. However, after your report on the ton-up speed cop from Telford, as a previously law abiding citizen, I felt obliged to air my views.
Having recently been on the receiving end of a £60 fine and three penalty points added to my otherwise clean licence for the dastardly crime of exceeding a 30 mph speed limit by a whole five mph, I naturally felt aggrieved when I read the front page of the Shropshire Star on August 25.
Oh, how I wish I had pleaded not guilty in court. With some luck I would have been dealt with by Judge Lenient of Ludlow.
On his previous form, for my crime I would have been found guilty but no fine or penalty points and, for my inconvenience, a free holiday - and if I had stated I was a serving police officer just doing my job perhaps I would've got some spending money and a bunch of flowers for my wife thrown in.
