Common EU values misnomer

Home Secretary John Reid sought to use the current terrorist situation to cement our alliance with the European Union by stressing its common values of human rights, democratic freedoms and justice for all - he could not have chosen three worse examples to promote the European Union.

A few weeks ago he was complaining that the human rights policy inflicted upon us by the EU aided rather than deterred terrorists.

Democratic freedoms is also a misnomer - the EU has been dismantling our democratic freedoms for the last 50 years as we are ruled from Brussels by people we have not elected. Justice for all is a nice catchphrase until you remember the people we have not elected all have immunity from prosecution.

The EU should carry a warning, like cigarette packets: "The European Union can seriously damage your country".
