Beware of losing post in transit

I recently sold a pair of jeans on eBay for £1.99. The actual value was around £40, but some you win, some you lose. I didn't expect to lose out twice over. I posted the jeans via the Royal Mail on May 4. The parcel did not arrive.

As compensation I have received a book of 12 first class stamps.

The Royal Mail's reasoning for this was that the value to the recipient was £1.99, not the £40 that was the actual value.

So I would like to warn your readers, firstly, when sending parcels through the post, always use the Track and Trace service.

Second, if posting a gift, be prepared for the Royal Mail to offer you nothing at all in compensation if their staff lose it.

I find it completely unacceptable that the Royal Mail do not provide adequate compensation.
