Pensioner Diane Bond said she was told that her case was being reviewed by the police and Crown Prosecution Service.

The seven stone, 5ft 1in, 64-year-old is alleged to have hit the ringleader of a gang who she said confronted her and began shouting abuse in a Llandrindod Wells park on July 27.

She claims that in response, he pushed her off her feet, and she broke her arm when she hit the ground.

She said she travelled to Brecon Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, where she was fingerprinted, photographed, DNA tested and interviewed. But she was told she would not know whether her case was going to court until she returns to the station on September 21.

Mrs Bond said today: "I have to go back again on September 21, so basically I was just bailed. I was fingerprinted, DNA tested, photographed, interviewed and all the rest of it.

"It's because I hit a minor and the courts don't like it."

She said it was agreed that she had struck the teenager, but insisted she was not capable of causing him any harm.

"I haven't denied hitting him, although the story from the kids is totally different from mine and makes it seem like I came down like a raging bull and bashed him," the former Llandrindod High School laboratory technician said.

She said she had spent three hours with police at Brecon. "It was a marathon, a bit of an ordeal, so I must admit I'm in a bit of a whirl now," she said.

A spokeswoman for the Crown Prosecution Service said the case was being handled by prosecutors from Newtown. Police in Llandrindod Wells said they were unable to comment as the case was still ongoing.

But a spokeswoman for Dyfed Powys Police said: "She is still on bail for Crown Prosecution Service advice. This is usual. Mrs Bond will be on bail pending this advice."
