An exhibition of artwork is on display at Attingham Park, on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

Students have created over 30 pieces of artwork using mixed media and have focused on the role Attingham Park played in the story and development of the women of the post-war Shropshire Adult Education College.

Their work has been displayed inside the mansion - part of which was once used as a training centre.

Claire Tafft, visitor experience manager for Attingham said: “Attingham has always been an important place for learning and wellbeing and the Adult Education College played an important role in this. We’re really excited to carry on its spirit and legacy through working with Shrewsbury College students and opening up the mansion to display their artwork.”

Mansion

The artwork on display include ceramic and earthenware pieces, photography, paintings, collagraphs, ink drawings and etchings, all reflecting an aspect of this post-war history.

Student’s work is on display throughout the rooms in the mansion until June 3, alongside the stories and history of the office and domestic staff, students, family members and courses offered for women at the Adult Education College.

Helen Morgan, Level 3 art and design course leader at Shrewsbury College said: “Our vocational art courses place a great deal of importance on learners gaining as much experience of working as artists and designers as possible.

"This project is a very important opportunity for our learners to gain valuable experience of working with the National Trust, who’ve worked hard to generate art work designed to help the trust to unveil another layer to the history of Attingham Park and therefore enrich the visitor experience.”

The mansion is open daily from 11am with last entry at 4.30pm until November 4, National Trust members and under 5s visit for free, standard admission charges will apply for non-members.

There is no additional charge to see the artwork on display.
