Caterpillar investing £4 million in its Shrewsbury factory
Vehicle parts manufacturer Caterpillar has announced it is investing £4 million in its Shrewsbury factory.
The company plans to transform Caterpillar's Shrewsbury machining and remanufacturing facility into a state-of-the-art department.
The Shrewsbury facility, in Lancaster Road, cleans, refurbishes, reassembles and updates Caterpillar products which include a wide variety of military, rail and machine engines, transmissions and drive line systems.
The capital investment will enable the business to purchase two state-of-the-art machining centres for both aluminium and iron components, flexible pallet loading solutions for both machines and a new wash for machined components. The machines should be on site by the end of 2015.
Shrewsbury Facility Manager Stephen Brown said: "It is the largest single investment in the site for over 20 years and it demonstrates great faith in not only our exciting plans but also our ability to achieve them.
"This will be a true game-changer for Caterpillar Shrewsbury."
Although the extra money is unlikely to create new jobs in the short-term, it will protect the 262 employees and 97 agency workers already there.
