Telford recycling company wins contract with mattress firm Silent Night
A one-of-a-kind recycling company based in Shropshire has landed a huge contract with one of the UK's biggest bed manufacturers.
Telford-based JBS Fibre Recovery has already undergone a rapid expansion in the last year, and now has five processing centres across the UK.
Now the company has won the right to recycle every old mattress taken from customers of retail giant Silent Night when they are buying new ones.
The new partnership will see JBS collect more than 7,000 mattresses during 2013, using its unique technology to recycle every component of the mattress, from its foam and fibres to the metal springs.
JBS operations director John Neill said: "We are absolutely delighted to have been appointed by such a huge multi-national as Silent Night to recycle all of the firm's old mattresses on behalf of its direct home delivery customers.
"We worked closely with the team at Silent Night to establish their exact environmental requirements, and are committed to ensuring that this new partnership provides the firm with a complete landfill diversion strategy."
The firm currently recycles more than 800,000 mattresses across the country, and as well as its Telford home it has bases at Milton Keynes, Burton Upon Trent, Bridgend and Trowbridge.
JBS diverts more than 7,000 tonnes from landfill, with the mattresses' components recycled into fibres such as cotton or hemp for the textiles industry, and products from carpet underlay to vehicle matting, tin cans and paper clips.
Brent Stuart, national business development manager at Silent Night, said: "As a company, we have stringent environmental policies in place that we have to adhere to, and the team at JBS Fibre Recovery clearly demonstrated both their commitment and capability to guarantee the complete satisfaction of our requirements.
"We are very much looking forward to working in partnership together over the next 12 months."
