Stylists to the stars Royston Blythe and his partner Nick Malenko were due to open new salon in St Mary's Street this month – creating 16 jobs.

The pair have a string of diverse famous clients, ranging from pop singer Katy Perry and model Abbey Clancy to actors Mickey Rourke and Antonio Banderas.

However, due to a delay in planning permission, building work is only just beginning on the new £150,000 salon at the site of the former Mad Jack's Delicatessen.

The firm now hopes to open in the town in February and is already planning a swanky launch party.

Anna Mackew, Royston Blythe's area manager said: "Building works are due to begin soon and we will probably be opening in February.

"Watch this space for a massive opening party as the boys are well known as party animals!" she added.

Royston Blythe already owns a flagship salon in Wolverhampton as well as another in The Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair, London.

One of the company's stylists is personal hairdresser to the Queen.

Recruitment for the new Shrewsbury salon is expected to take place in the new year.

Current employee Ashley Gamble will take over as managing director of the new salon, and will look to recruit up to 16 other members of staff.

A range of cut and colouring services will be on offer from staff with international experience working for television, the press, celebrities and the catwalk.

Royston Blythe made his name with eye-catching designs for catwalk shows and on the stage, establishing the first eponymous salon in 1989.
