Chris Packham film on food security crisis to screen in Broseley
Free public screening in Broseley.
A new film by Chris Packham on food security and the climate and nature crisis is coming to Broseley for a free public screening at Birchmeadow Centre on Friday (May 8) at 7pm.
The People's Emergency Briefing is a 50 minute documentary with scientists, celebrities, and ordinary people discussing the impact of the crisis on the UK and what it will mean for communities in places like Shropshire.
The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing – a landmark event held for MPs in Westminster last November which brought together leading experts to assess the UK’s exposure to climate and nature risks. It covered the implications on food security, public health, infrastructure, the economy and national security, alongside evidence-based actions that we can take to reduce these risks.
Following the film, attendees will be invited to take part in a structured discussion, designed to support open, constructive conversation about the issues raised and what they may mean locally. In Broseley, the screening comes at a time when local residents are feeling the cost of living crisis on food prices and worrying about the impact of extreme weather on the UK’s food resilience – with Shropshire farmers badly hit by the second worst harvest on record last year.

Clare Cooper, one of the event organisers, says: “The People’s Emergency Briefing gives people in Broseley a chance to hear from the experts who briefed MPs in Westminster last November. We know that farmers and local people are struggling from the impacts of climate and nature breakdown already - food prices are rocketing due to extreme weather. For example, chocolate prices in November 2025 were 17% higher than a year before as droughts and flooding hit crop yields. If we want to protect local people from price shocks and empty supermarket shelves, we need urgent action from our MPs because this is now a threat to our food security and our national security.”

Screenings of the film are currently happening nationwide and Shropshire Council is supporting the screenings and encouraging staff to attend.
Tickets for the Broseley screening are free, but advance registration is encouraged via Eventbrite: eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-peoples-emergency-briefing-tickets-1984925347146
