'Dilapidated' former village pub at centre of community row up for sale for £200,000

The pub has been empty since 2020

A depilated pub at the centre of a long-running community battle to save it is up for sale.

The Red Lion in Sutton, near Newport and Gnosall in Staffordshire, is back on the market six years after serving its last pint.

In 2021, the year after it closed, the pub on the A519 was sold to developers Vanbrugh Construction, who had plans to covert the pub into a house and build six more homes on the garden and car park.

In the meantime, Forton Parish Council had applied for the pub to be protected as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) - which Stafford Council approved just one day after the pub was sold.

Earlier this year, Stafford Council renewed the listing, meaning it will be protected for another five years.

Now, the building is up for sale with a guide price of £200,000.

Agents, Sidney Phillips, describe the building as being “in a state of dilapidation” and say the property “will require major investment” and a “complete development and refurbishment”.
