England World Cup flags ban? Nonsense, says Telford Council
Telford & Wrekin Council today urged football mad residents to paint the town red and white to cheer on England's football team in the World Cup - after rumours online that flags had been banned.
Telford & Wrekin Council recently transformed one of its prominent floral displays in Ketley. When this blooms it will turn into a red and white flag of St George with the message Come on England.
A picture of the flowerbed posted on the Council's Facebook page prompted comments from some residents claiming that it was not allowed to drape England flags or bunting from homes or businesses.
But the council are assuring people they are more than welcome to show off their patriotic sides.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: "Nothing could be further from the truth.
"As a council we want everyone in the borough to get behind the England team, cheer them on and show this in whatever way that they can.
"If, while the World Cup is on, people want to decorate their homes and businesses with England flags and bunting, then we positively welcome it.
"Let's all do what we can to show our support for the national team in Brazil."
