Wolves players gutted for Michal Zyro
James Henry has spoken of the Wolves dressing room devastation at Michal Zyro's long-term injury – as it was revealed the Pole could be out for longer than a year.
Zyro only moved to Molineux in January after being scouted for years, but now faces a long road back to fitness.
There must be doubts that the 23-year-old will even feature next season.
And Henry said the squad were 'gutted' for the Polish international forward. "Everyone's devastated and all we can do is be there for him," Henry added.
"We're gutted for him, he's a great lad and you wouldn't wish an injury on your worst enemy.
"He's a lovely lad, generally quite positive and hard-working. I'm sure once whatever's wrong with him has been sorted he'll be in that gym to get up and running."
Zyro was due to see a consultant today and will undergo surgery in the next couple of weeks when swelling on his knee has settled down.
Wolves' head of medical, Phil Hayward, outlined just how serious the injury is. "He sustained a very considerable amount of damage to his knee," Hayward said.
"He's injured his cruciate ligament, his lateral ligament and some other structure as well to the outside of the knee.
"He's also sustained a small fracture to the inside of the knee, which gives you an indication perhaps of the amount of force that was involved in the tackle.
"With an injury of this nature where there's more than one structure involved you're definitely looking more towards a full year, perhaps more than that potentially."
Hayward believes the player has the right character to bounce back and fully recovery, labelling Zyro as 'remarkable'.
"Sometimes when an injury happens which is just freakish and unfortunate it's perhaps easier to take in some ways.
"He's not in much pain now and he's very positive already.
"He's a remarkable guy in that respect, he's very strong-willed and I'm sure that'll stand him in good stead."
