Upturn in Wolves form was matter of principles

Wolves' defensive duo of Danny Batth and Ethan Ebanks-Landell have been praised by boss Kenny Jackett who said of his recent tactics: "We had to change."

Three successive victories and clean sheets have completely changed the outlook at Molineux.

Wolves had previously conceded seven goals in two games as their season threatened to unravel.

Jackett admitted it had been two extremes from his side.

So what has changed to bring around the dramatic transformation?

"Its hard to predict what's going to happen in football," Jackett said. "I certainly knew where the team needed to go and what we needed to do, after Sheffield Wednesday (a 4-1 defeat).

"The players have responded very well. They're the ones that have taken the responsibility and worked very hard.

"It's been two extremes. We changed the emphasis of the team (from) chasing games.

"Our emphasis was more on the ball and that showed, we were easy to play against, easy to get through, not compact, exposing our defenders in one v one situations too many times. The emphasis of the team had to change."

Jackett takes his team to West Ham this Saturday with the pressure on his position having noticeably eased.

And he spoke of his delight for Batth and Ebanks-Landell, who have turned their form around in the recent winning run.

"For our two centre backs I'm very pleased for them, they're both good players and can come through and be strong players in the Championship," Jackett said.

"(The tactics have) simplified it. In the Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds games both centre halves were pulled out of position a lot, both of them were at different times coming out in midfield and leaving gaps that the opposition were exploiting time and time again.

"To support them, to build up their defensive principles, which are defending as a unit rather than an individual, that's what we've worked on.

"Ethan's shown what he's made of, he's shown good character to keep going. His assessment is that he feels he can handle the Championship and that the more he players the better he's going to get.

"When a player tells you that it's quite encouraging, and that's been the case with him
