Jez Moxey: Benik Afobe must work harder
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey claims hotshot Benik Afobe must work harder if he is to become a top striker.
The £2m hitman has impressed after scoring 13 goals in 21 games to take his tally to 32 in all competitions this season to make him the country's top scorer.
Afobe has been linked with Albion and Crystal Palace and Express & Star pundit and Leicester strikers coach Kevin Phillips believes he will attract bids this summer.
Moxey is convinced there is improvement in the 22-year-old but reckons he must graft harder to fulfil his potential as Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett looks to get his strikers closing down defenders more.
"I think so. For me, he's got to work both sides of the ball," said Moxey.
"He's got better at it and the thing we really like about Benik is he's a development player.
"He just happened to be an Arsenal development player.
"He came through their academy system and he shares the same values as the vast majority of that dressing room shares.
"So he fits into the team really and thinks 'do you know what? I have to improve'.
"The fact he's the country's leading scorer has us asking the question 'can he do it two years in a row?'
"Half of his season was in League One but if he scores 30 goals in the Championship then it would be a different kettle of fish."
Afobe is just the sort of quality signing head coach Kenny Jackett is looking to make this summer as he prepares to lose out-of-contract winger Bakary Sako.
Moxey says Wolves will spend as they look to improve on their seventh-placed finish and they are targeting players of similar age, background and experience.
"If we could find another Benik Afobe, we'd get him," he said.
"We want to get players similar to the ones we've got.
"Coaches want players who are used to playing, which is why a lot of Premier League teams are loaning players out to gain that experience.
"It comes at a price but we're willing to do that this summer if we can.
"There won't be loads of them but strategically we'll try to strengthen the team if we can."
