Boost for Wolves as Bakary Sako opts out of cup

Wolves today breathed a sigh of relief after Bakary Sako ruled himself out of the African Cup of Nations in January.

The news comes as manager Stale Solbakken insisted they won't fall prey to any Premier League vultures circling around the £3m winger in the next transfer window.

Paris-born Sako had been considering an offer to play for Mali, the country of his parents' birth, in the tournament being held in January and February in Libya.

Sako could have been away for six weeks if he had chosen to take up the offer.

But Solbakken is confident Sako will stay "There's nothing that points in the direction to say he's going to go," said Solbakken. "I'm quite confident he'll stay and in fact, I'm convinced of that."

Sako has been the club's outstanding player this season and his form has already attracted top-flight scouts.

But Wolves are confident of keeping him when the transfer window re-opens. "I'm 100 per cent sure because he's under contract," said the boss.
