Terry Connor today urged Wolves to put the club's future ahead of his own – as he stressed results would improve under him should he be given time.

The Molineux chief has been touted to keep the job beyond his contract to the end of the season and chief executive Jez Moxey would welcome his application.

But Wolves have to balance a longer-term appointment of the 49-year-old against a potential backlash from fans anxious at his association with relegation and just two points from 10 games in charge.

Should Mick McCarthy get another job, Connor, the backroom and scouting staff and several players would become targets, which could spark a summer of upheaval.

But if Connor stayed in the hotseat, he and his staff would be more likely to stay.

"Let the club find what path they want to take," said Connor. "Whatever happens has to be for the good of Wolves. Whatever input I have, it will be for the benefit of Wolves, not me."

Despite eight defeats, Connor feels he is close to an upturn in results after improving the performances of several players.

"With improved players and performances you've got a chance of getting results," he said.
