"The new contract extends my future here by four years and I was really happy the club wanted to do that," said the Ireland international.
Meanwhile Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will be free to repeat 'Old Traffordgate' next season without fear of reprisal.
Clubs will not now be punished for making wholesale changes to their teams provided they select from their 25-man squad.
Wolves were hit by a suspended £25,000 fine after McCarthy made 10 changes for the 3-0 defeat at Manchester United in December 2009 but that was before the 25-man squad rule.
Blackpool did the same for their 3-2 defeat at Villa last season and were fined £25,000.
