Super Shaun shuns stag do for Shrewsbury
The League One play-off final has put paid to a stag do for groom-to-be Shaun Whalley – but he says it will be worth if it Shrewsbury make the Championship.
The 30-year-old marries girlfriend Jessica on June 8 in Cyprus but any wedding build-up has been postponed thanks to his side’s unlikely promotion push.
The winger said: “I don’t think I’d be allowed to go to Vegas! I’m not sure. I would have taken anywhere to be honest but it wasn’t to be. It’s all about Sunday now. I’m sure I’ll have a few beers if we win on Sunday. I’m not that bothered. I think Jon (Nolan) is more bothered than me!”
Shrewsbury’s season stretches into its 62nd game over 296 days as Town do battle with Rotherham for a place in the second tier.
When asked if Jessica – who enjoyed her hen do last weekend – was relieved at no stag do antics, Whalley replied with a smile: “She probably is, yes. She says she’s disappointed that I can’t have one but I think secretly, she’s made up, yes.”
Would many of Whalley’s blue and amber team-mates have made the cut for the stag?
“Just Jon and maybe Joe (Riley),” he added.
Whalley, Jessica and their young son Jude – who Town’s No.7 honours every time he scores a goal by signalling a ‘J’ – will be jetting off to Mallorca to enjoy a family honeymoon.
