Shrewsbury Town dismayed by Bolton Wanderers ticket pricing
disappointed Shrewsbury Town have expressed dismay with Bolton Wanderers' pricing structure – but have promised to reward fans who make the Boxing Day trip.
The Macron Stadium outfit are charging away supporters £28 – a category A fee – for the festive visit of Paul Hurst's side.
Boxing Day is renowned for pulling in bigger attendances across the nation but Town fans have used social media to express their disgruntlement at the the hosts' decision, using the supporter campaign 'Twenty's Plenty' which led to a cap at £30 for visiting Premier League fans.
Shrewsbury have admitted their disappointment but are keen to offer extra bonuses for supporters who make the journey on December 26.
Fans will be rewarded with double loyalty points and awarded a free festive selection pack.
Town chief executive Brian Caldwell said: "I have contacted Bolton Wanderers Football Club myself to pass on our disappointment at the pricing for our supporters.
"Pricing for league away games is obviously decided by the home club and therefore out of our control.
Selection
"However, as a goodwill gesture to our fans during the festive period, we will be giving our supporters who purchase tickets for this match double loyalty.
"And everyone purchasing a ticket or who has purchased a ticket up until now, will be given a free festive selection pack which we have arranged in conjunction with our food suppliers Woodwards."
Bolton have the joint-highest ticket prices in League One, with some home supporters paying £30 for an upper tier ticket in the north, east and west stands.
While Walsall's price of £21 is the cheapest 'most expensive' ticket in the division, Shrewsbury charge supporters a £22 top price and £20 bottom price.
Glyn Price, a spokesperson for the club's Supporters' Parliament, added: "It's awful that at a time of year when families want to get out and enjoy football together that Bolton are pricing them out of attending what is a key part of the festive football fixtures.
"£28 for an adult to watch a League One football match is frankly disgraceful.
"Hopefully Bolton take fans' views on board and give a little back, or they look like they have cemented themselves as football's Scrooge this Christmas."
