Watch: Shrewsbury Town sign Ryan McGivern and AJ Leitch-Smith
Shrewsbury Town have sealed deals for former Port Vale pair Ryan McGivern and AJ Leitch-Smith to join the club.
26-year-old Leitch-Smith, who scored 13 times for Port Vale in all competitions last season, becomes manager Micky Mellon's sixth signing of the summer.
Leitch-Smith, born in Crewe, started his career with his hometown club and made over 100 appearances for the Alex.
And the striker now cannot wait to get the next chapter of his career started at Greenhous Meadow.
"I'm just glad to finally get the deal done," Leitch-Smith told shrewsburytown.com.
"The gaffer's very ambitious and so are the type of players he is bringing in at the minute so it looks like we are going to have a good squad next year, so there were quite a few factors that drew me here in the end.
"Micky told me about his plans and where he sees the club going, the type of people he wants to bring in and it all fitted into somewhere where I would like to go and we finally got it done.
"I did have quite a bit of interest and had a few offers as well but, in the end, this was the place for me."
Leitch-Smith already knows some of the players in the Town squad having played with Louis Dodds, Ryan McGivern, Antoni Sarcevic and Junior Brown in the past.
And the 26-year-old believes he can grab goals for the Shrews next season.
"I would say I could finish, I'm comfortable on the ball and I can create chances and score goals," he said.
"I can play as a number ten or a number nine, so I think I'm quite flexible at that.
"I want to do well for the team, score goals and help Shrewsbury climb the table."
Defender McGivern, born in Northern Ireland, has represented his country at international level and made his Premier League debut for Manchester City in 2011.
And he is now looking forward to the next chapter of his career.
"I am delighted to get signed and get everything over the line, and I am looking forward to the season ahead," McGivern told shrewsburytown.com.
"From playing here last year, I know the setup is very good and I got the phone call and spoke to the manager and everything he said sounded perfect to me.
"He told me he wanted me to be here and it was hard to say no really.
"A few clubs were interested in me but this one popped up and speaking to the manager and knowing the boys I knew this was the place for me.
"I know a few of the boys already here. I know Olly Lancashire who has just signed and Gary Deegen I have played with in the past as well as Olly, and I know Richie Wellens too from a loan spell in the past."
McGivern, 26, admits he is happy to a job anywhere for Town having played either centre back or left back for most of his career.
"I like to try and play football but at the end of the day I know my job and if I can get a clean sheet rather than starting an attack that's what makes me happy," he said.
"Hopefully I can bring a lot of clean sheets to the side and a lot of wins.
"I have played left back most my career apart from the last two seasons at Port Vale where I have gone in and it is probably my favourite position but I am happy to do a job anywhere across the back four."
