Louis Dodds has promised to bring guile and graft after becoming Shrewsbury Town's latest signing.

The 29-year-old versatile attacker has signed a two-year deal after rejecting terms to stay at Port Vale, where he has been for eight years.

The stylish Sheffield-born forward, who can play as an attacking midfielder, number 10 or striker, scored 56 goals in 332 games for Vale and helped them win automatic promotion from League Two in 2012-13.

"I bring a bit of creativity and an eye for goal," said Dodds. "I like to get on the ball and make things happen but I also like to work hard and put a shift in.

"I think that's one of the things fans can look forward to seeing me do."

Dodds spoke to several clubs before committing to Town, and, like fellow new arrivals Olly Lancashire and Gary Deegan, admitted he was sold on the club after speaking to manager Micky Mellon.

"I spoke to a few clubs but from speaking to the manager he really sold it to me and it's one of the reasons I came here," he said.

"I spoke to him then had a look around the stadium and the facilities. It's something that appealed and I can't wait to get going.

"I'm delighted to sign for Shrewsbury and it's a big opportunity and something I'm looking forward to."

Dodds scored eight goals in 37 games last season, netting in both games against Salop, something he has had a habit of doing down the years.

And he says he's looking forward to putting the balance right now he'll be in blue and amber.

"I've scored a few so hopefully it will be for Shrewsbury this time," he said.

"I scored against Shrewsbury a couple of months ago - it was a very soft header.

"I've played a few games here and it's always been a good atmosphere and they have always been good games."

Dodds will be familiar with at least one face at Town after coming through the ranks at Leicester City with James Wesolowski.

"I know James Wesolowski and a few other lads from playing against them," he said.
