Thomas Telford girls will play before the JPT final
Shrewsbury Town may have seen their Wembley dream end this week, but the club will have a side heading for the national stadium.
Two days after Micky Mellon's side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United, Town were the winners at the Kinder+Sport Football League Girls Cup northern area final held in Huddersfield yesterday.
Each club are represented by a school side, with youngsters from Thomas Telford School making up the Shrews team.
The girls will now take on the southern area final winners, Cambridge United, ahead of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final between Barnsley and Oxford United at Wembley on Sunday, April 3. Shrewsbury finished top of a group which consisted of Middlesbrough, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers.
Town then beat Middlesbrough 3-1 in the final thanks to goals from Sophie Bromford (2) and Anna Bebb.
The Shrewsbury Town squad consisted of Bromford, Bebb, Anna Welch, Lauren Fishman, Grace Bloomfield, Lucie Hill, Carris Powell and Pavlinka Warren.
The girls reached the northern finals after winning the regional finals at the Lucozade Powerleague Shrewsbury site next to Greenhous Meadow in January.
They beat Northampton Town in that final after progressing from a group containing Port Vale, Birmingham, Crewe and Walsall.
Shrewsbury Town in the Community's health and inclusion officer, Aiden Wassell, said: "We are all delighted to have the opportunity to go to Wembley with the girls.
"It is a great reward for the hard work they have put in and we hope they enjoy the experience at Wembley."
Manager Anna Perks said after their regional success: "They're a great set of girls and I'm really proud of them. It's fantastic to represent Shrewsbury Town."
