McAtee, 18, is on loan from Shrewsbury Town until the end of the season and struck to seal a 1-0 win against FC United of Manchester on Saturday.

He has quickly become a favourite of the Bucks faithful, giving his all for the side third bottom in National League North.

"I'm delighted with him. It's great that he got the winner on Saturday," said Edwards.

"That's why we brought him in. We know how good he is and the talent he possesses.

"He's got a goal in him and he has showed that."

McAtee's strike came in the first half, coolly sweeping home from close range.

Edwards knows he can play a key role during the run-in for Telford, but is also keen not to burn the teenager out.

"It's great for him. All we've got to do is make sure we get the balance right because he's a young lad still – although he doesn't look it when he's out on the pitch," he said.

"We've got to manage that game time as we have a heck of a lot games.

"Already he's shown, in the three games with us, the quality he has got, the attitude and desire to improve.

"I really think these next few months will be valuable for him and his own career – and, in turn, help us."

McAtee's goal at the weekend in front of 1,186 fans at the New Bucks Head was set up by Elliot Newby.

Those two impressed greatly, as did debutants Paul Bignot and Niall Maher.

Bignot started at right-back and Maher at centre-half, and Edwards said: "I thought they were excellent.

"Bigs and Niall both looked very assured.

"They were talking, communicating, leading – they didn't put a foot wrong.

"It was really good for them to get their home debuts, and the win as well."

Telford host Nuneaton Town tomorrow night (kick-off 7.45pm).

Edwards added: "We're still in the bottom three and still have a big job to do.

"There's 13 games left for us now. We've got three points on Saturday and there's another 39 to play for.

"It's been tough but there's a lot of people worse off.

"We just have to make sure we get the wins that are needed. I'm convinced we'll do that."
