AFC Telford seek boss after Liam Watson axe
AFC Telford bosses were today beginning the search for the club's fifth permanent manager in its 10-year history.
The Bucks sacked Liam Watson and his assistant Dominic Morley at the weekend.
The decision was taken to part with Watson, who took over the reins in May 2013, by the club's board of directors because of the team's poor league form and falling attendances.
Only 776 were at the New Bucks Head on Saturday to watch the team's 1-1 draw with AFC Chester in the FA Trophy.
Telford are currently rock bottom of the Conference Premier and club bosses are wasting no time in their search to appoint a successor.
A club statement said: "The club and Trust Board will now work quickly to appoint a permanent successor whose main task will be to fulfil the club's main objective of retaining Vanarama Premier status this season."
Managing director Lee Carter added: "It was the board of directors' (decision to part company with Liam Watson).
"We try and take the decisions in as collective a manner as possible so, of course, we talk to the (supporters) trust and the trust chairman has been involved in all the discussions.
"But, ultimately, it is our name on the contract or on the agreement in this instance so it is us that has to make the final decision.
"You don't make decisions like this on the hoof. You take a lot of time. We are a club that likes to give managers our full support and the greatest amount of time possible.
"So of course the decision has taken a while to come to its conclusion."
Despite the team's poor form, the exact timing of the decision came as a surprise to some as it came little more than an hour after the team had claimed a creditable 1-1 draw at home to Chester in the FA Trophy, forcing a replay.
But it will give a new manager time to improve the squad by bringing in new signings in the January transfer window.
Prior to this season former Southport manager Watson had enjoyed a sparkling record, leading Telford to the Conference North title in his first campaign in charge.
