AFC Telford's Steve Akrigg adopting a no fear approach
Steve Akrigg today claimed AFC Telford United have no reason to fear the Skrill Conference Premier.
Defender Akrigg played the previous three seasons in the non-league top flight with Southport and jumped at the chance to re-join former boss Liam Watson at the New Bucks Head.
As one of the minority of part-time clubs in the division, Telford will be among the pre-season relegation favourites.
But Akrigg says they can take hope from the likes of fellow part-timers Halifax Town, who finished in the play-offs last season.
"The Conference is a tough league, especially for part-time clubs," he said.
"It can be a disadvantage but there are always a couple of part-time clubs who do well every year.
"You only have to look at how well Halifax did last year. It shows it can be done."
Akrigg insists getting to 50 points will be the first aim and added: "The priority is to get to 50 points as soon as possible. You see how tough it can be. There are some big teams like Chester who came up from Conference North and struggled. But then you have teams like Braintree, who have done well over the last few years.
"Part-time teams can definitely cause upsets in this league."
