Liam Watson getting AFC Telford back on track

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today vowed to call on his experience to see there's no hangover from their club-record defeat.

The second-placed Bucks were trounced 6-1 at Guiseley on Tuesday night and missed the chance to go back top of the Skrill Conference North.

The players will be back under Watson's wing for training tonight and the Telford chief isn't regarding the loss as anything other than a setback.

There's no time to dwell with another crunch clash against the team just behind them in the table, Altrincham, at the New Bucks Head on Saturday.

And Watson today backed his players to respond in similar fashion to the last time they were beaten, at home to Barrow in January, where they went on an 11-game unbeaten run.

He said: "It's my job now to pick them up for Saturday and this is where I have got to call on my experience of going through title run-ins.

"It's a setback, that's all. The last time we lost we went unbeaten for 11 games, we have done it before and we can do it again.

"We will have a good training session tonight, get them back at it and refocused. We will look to pick the right team for the Altrincham game and then we will go again."

Watson doesn't think there will be any added effect of a heavy drubbing at Guiseley, as he believes promotion will be decided on points and not goal difference.

They have now scored one less and conceded four more than league leaders North Ferriby United, who they trail by a point on the same games played going into Saturday.

Alty are five points behind the Bucks and have a better goal difference and a game in hand, although they did lose some ground on Tuesday night with a goalless draw at home to Boston United.

Watson said: "I don't ever see goal difference coming in the equation, I think there will be points in it. We have just got to turn up on Saturday and perform.

"It's a massive game. Altrincham dropped two points on Tuesday while we got nothing and yet we are still five points ahead of them."
