FA Trophy woe a low for AFC Telford boss
AFC Telford boss Andy Sinton has admitted Saturday's shock FA Trophy defeat against lower-league King's Lynn Town was one the lowest points of his managerial career.
The Bucks boss said the second round 3-1 loss, against a side playing league football three divisions below the Blue Square Bet Premier League, had been on a par with last season's FA Cup thumping by Chelmsford.
On that occasion, the Blue Square South side defeated Telford 4-0 in Essex in the first round.
He said: "As a manager, your lows are certainly far lower than any lows you experience as a player.
"As a player, you are responsible for yourself. As manager you are responsible for a team, a club, a town.
"I have had a couple of real bad ones. One this sort of time last year at Chelmsford and this one on Saturday.
"It's a lonely place managing. As a player, I have won cups, I have played for my country but, in terms of lows, when it doesn't go for you as a manager it's a lonely place.
"It's tough but it is my job to turn it round."
Sinton, though, that his side, which has gone seven games without a win in the league, needed to raise their game when playing the division's less-fancied sides.
The former Tottenham and Wolves winger added his side's best performances this season had come against opponents placed near the top of the division, while they too often fell short against those further down the table.
He said: "That is a problem we have got. We are fine against the better sides. We struggle against the sides at the bottom of our league and, no disrespect to King's Lynn, the team from a lower league.
"That is a mentality thing, it's not an ability thing."
