Shropshire are on top as bowlers shine
Shropshire's bowlers won a 'chaotic' opening salvo with Cornwall's big hitters at Bridgnorth Cricket Club.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a 'belter' of a pitch yesterday, but were quickly reduced to 84-6.
It came thanks to some fantastic opening bowling from Sam Griffiths and Alex Wyatt.
Cornwall rallied, thanks to a flourishing 96 from first class professional Greg Smith.
But Shropshire managed to bowl out the Unicorns Championship Western Division leaders for 245 on day one.
Captain Steve Leach said: "I thought the opening bowlers were fantastic.
"I lost an important toss and Cornwall elected to bat, they've got a lot of hard hitters who score at a high run rate.
"They were 63-4 off 10 overs, which is chaos in a three-day game but Sam Griffiths and Alex Wyatt really held their nerves."
Leach was pleased with the patience his team showed in the field and the control his spinners David Wainwright and Henry Blofield were bowling with.
Wainwright took 4-73 and even though Blofield didn't pick up a wicket, Leach said: "Blofield was absolutely superb.
"We've got a nice rounded attack, we're happy to throw the ball to the spinners on day one, they're good enough to adapt and be economical."
Leach, himself, batted well until succumbing on a frustrating 46, and Joe Carrasco played nicely before Andrew Libby trabbed him leg before wicket on 35.
But Wainwright (45) and Ross Aucott (13 not out) remain unbeaten ahead of today's play with Shropshire well-placed 90 runs behind on 155-4.
