Ryan Lockley breaks leg in Bridgnorth loss
Bridgnorth cricketer Ryan Lockley suffered a cruel broken leg in his first game back from an arm injury that required surgery.
The opening batsman, who has played for Shropshire this season, was trying to save a boundary at Old Hill Cricket Club but somehow broke his left leg in the process.
The bizarre accident happened in the penultimate over of Bridgnorth's three-wicket defeat to bottom club Old Hill in the Birmingham & District League First Division on Saturday.
Team-mate James Ralph said: "He's having a bit of a rough patch. We'll miss Ryan over the next few weeks because we are struggling at the moment and haven't scored many runs.
"We could do with everyone being available."
Bridgnorth were put in and bowled out for 93, before Old Hill chased the runs down with three wickets remaining.
A frustrated Ralph said: "It was a game totally dependent on the toss. The wicket they batted on was nothing like the wicket we batted on, It was like batting on plasticine, but then it dried out.
"We've done really well to make a game of that, they wouldn't have made 40 on the wicket we batted on with Charlie Morris (6-27) bowling like he was."
Bridgnorth are third-bottom in Division One, with Ralph explaining: "To stay in the league will be a major achievement after back-to-back promotions, it's the highest league we've ever been in."
