After opening the campaign with back-to-back successes, the London Road men suffered an eight-wicket reverse at the hands of top flight new-boys Ombersley.

Rob Foster's side were left ruing a batting collapse that saw them slip from 71-0 to 143 all out.

Openers Steve Leach (47) and Ed Foster (33) had given Shrewsbury a solid start, but only Daniel Manders (21 not out) offered any other resistance as they lost 10 wickets for 72 runs.

That total failed to test the hosts as they cantered home inside 38 overs thanks to an unbeaten 45 from Uday Kaul and 39 not out from Brett D'Oliveira.

The loss saw Shrewsbury slip down to sixth in the standings.

Oswestry and Wellington both tasted defeat in Division One.

Mark Robinson's Oswestry outfit slipped to a six-wicket reverse at Old Hill.

Big guns Joe Clarke, Michael Johnson and Warrick Fynn all fell early as Oswestry struggled to 117-8 before No.10 Dan Bowen chipped in with a useful 27 to boost their final total to 164.

But Old Hill's overseas star Monil Patel then struck 89 to take his side to victory.

Wellington's mixed start to the summer continued as they went down by three wickets at home to Leamington Spa.

Daniel Vaughan top scored with 31 as Wellington were restricted to 168-8 – a total boosted by 41 extras.

Adam Byram (3-36) and Wendell Wagner (2-30) did their best to check Leamington's progress but the visitors got home thanks to 44 from Zack Fagg and 34 from David Bailey.

In Division Three, newly-promoted Worfield were celebrating after registering their first Birmingham League success.

Skipper Nick Hudson (39) led the way with the bat for his side, with Tom Pickerill (32) and Will Cook (27) making useful contributions to help Worfield to 201-8 from their 50 overs against Pelsall.

Gagandeep Singh then shone with the ball for Worfield, bagging 4-30 to help dismiss the visitors for 183 in reply. Cook and Patrick Butler also bagged two wickets each.

Whitchurch captain Maisam Hasnain set the perfect example as he fired his side to a 31-run success at

Hasnain's fine knock of 123 helped Whitchurch to 219-9 before Stratford were dismissed for 188 with Ijaz Yousaf picking up 4-32.
