Worcestershire's Richard Oliver secures half-century
Former Shropshire cricket captain Richard Oliver has notched his maiden first class half-century in the third day of Worcestershire's LV County Championship Division Two match against Glamorgan.
Oliver, who relinquished his role as the Cats' skipper last month after earning a contract with The Pears, struck a fine 65 off 97 balls during his team's second innings at New Road yesterday.
That knock, which included 12 fours, was predominantly achieved batting alongside England hero Moeen Ali, who struck his maiden Test century in just his second Test match against Sri Lanka last week.
Oliver, who was eventually dismissed by Dean Cosker, had scored a less eye-catching 13 in the first innings earlier in the match.
Worcestershire finished the third day on 299-7 declared after their second innings, leaving Glamorgan needing 355 from today's final day to win the match.
Oliver's latest heroics with the bat came just days after rain scuppered his chances of claiming an incredible triple century for Worcestershire's seconds.
He had finished day three of his team's clash with Warwickshire on 292 not out but rain on the fourth day saw the game abandoned.
n England seamer Chris Woakes bowled Warwickshire back into their Division One match against Nottinghamshire at Edgbaston with a season's best 5-35.
Nottinghamshire were dismissed for 225 in their second innings, which left Warwickshire to chase 289 to win.
