Worcestershire's Richard Oliver triple century chance rained off

Rain has robbed former Shropshire cricket captain Richard Oliver of a shot at a sensational triple century this afternoon.

The ex-Shifnal ace was 292 not out overnight batting for Worcestershire's second XI on day three of the team's four-day friendly with Warwickshire seconds, unbeaten with his side amassing 713-6 at Barnt Green.

The 24-year-old was due to be withdrawn today after being picked for the Rapids' first XI for their T20 Blast game with Nottinghamshire at New Road tonight.

But Worcestershire gained ECB approval for Oliver to resume ahead of a planned, quick declaration.

Oliver was poised to chase the eight runs he needed even when rain this morning suspended play from 11am to a rescheduled start time of 1pm.

One over may have been all he needed, but the weather reprieve he was hoping for failed to materialise and the match was called off early this afternoon.

Oliver, who recently signed a contract with the county until the end of the 2015 season, has impressed as part of the Rapids NatWest T20 Blast squad with 189 runs in his eight innings with a top score of 77.
