Former Wolves league winner dies aged 90

Former Wolves attacker Colin Booth, who twice won the top flight league title with the club, has passed away at the age of 90.

The striker, who scored 27 goals in 82 appearances for Wolves, twice won the First Division title for the club in the 1950s.

He joined Wolves as an apprentice in 1950 after leaving his home town of Middleton in Greater Manchester, and made his debut against Aston Villa in 1955.

Booth established himself in the 1955/56 season and scored his first Wolves goal in the 7-2 win against Manchester City.

The forward famously score four goals in one game against Arsenal and he was part of the Wolves team that became champions of England for a second time during the 1957/58 season, where he played 13 times.

He stayed with Wolves the following season and score a hat-trick against Portsmouth - his second for the club after doing the same against Sheffield United in 1956.

Booth was still with Wolves when they retained the top flight title in the 1958/59 campaign and he played his final Wolves game in October 1959 before joining Nottingham Forest.

He played for England under-21s during his time at Wolves and also went on to play for Doncaster Rovers and Oxford United and he lived close to the area after his playing days had ended.

A Wolves statement read: "The thoughts of all at Wolves are with Colin’s family and friends at this sad time."

Meanwhile, the Wolves Former Players Association added: "All at Wolves FPA send their sincere condolences to the family and friends of former player Colin Booth, who has passed away at the age of 90. 

"Colin scored 27 goals in 82 games for Wolves, including 13 in each of the title-winning seasons of 1957-58 and 58-59."
