Alcala also managed to bring down Dieu Vivant and this left the race at the mercy of Magna Sam, who jumped the last to gain what turned out to be a wide margin success on a windy and miserable afternoon, writes Ben Morgan.

Local trainer Kerry Lee enjoyed success as Town Parks took home the biggest prize of the day under a masterful ride from Harry Skelton in the Cobnobs Handicap Steeplechase

Hijack would have warmed the cockles of his backers as he followed up his earlier course win with another smooth success in the opener.

His stablemate, Allart, joined him in the winner’s enclosure as he powered his way through the soft ground to notch his first success.

The well backed I’m Wiser Now proved to be not so wise as he threw away victory late on as he showed a tendency to lug to his left which allowed 20/1 shot Oscar Asche to outgun him close to home in the Henman Marquees Maiden Hurdle.

The Mares Handicap Hurdle looked the most competitive race but it was the favourite Legends Gold who came home in front, a victory which provided Welsh trainer Rebecca Curtis with a double on the day.

One True King took the finale in style for the Twiston-Davies team.

Racing returns to Ludlow on Wednesday, February 5.
