Dave Richards to stand down at Shawbury

Shawbury United stalwart Dave Richards has stood down as manager along with joint boss Stu Lewis.

Richards has been involved with Shawbury for the best part of 20 seasons – being manager for eight of those.

He oversaw the most successful period in the club’s history with the West Midlands League Premier Division and Shropshire Challenge Cup wins among the silverware.

Richards has also been fulfilling the role as club chairman this season, and is relinquishing all managerial responsibilities for the final two games.

He will retain his position on the senior committee and continue to have a major influence as the club moves towards securing its own ground in Shawbury, after the north Shropshire side switched to play their home games at Ludlow – some 40 miles away in south Shropshire.

Lewis has been largely responsible for the first team organisation this season, and has worked tirelessly to ensure Shawbury maintain their West Midlands League Premier League status, a scenario looking increasingly likely following recent results with them five points clear of the drop with two games left to play.

Lewis will continue next season as manager of Shawbury’s newly-formed under-18 team.
