Shropshire have Dorset in a spin
Director of cricket Karl Krikken hailed the quality of Shropshire's display after they emphatically beat Dorset by 10 wickets in their Unicorns Championship opener.
A combined nine-wicket haul from spinners David Wainwright and Jack McIver prompted a Dorset collapse from 63-0 to 119 all out in their second innings at Whitchurch's Heath Road ground after lunch on the second day.
It left Shropshire, who were bowled out for 296 in reply to Dorset's first innings total of 185, needing just nine runs to wrap up a convincing victory when they briefly had to bat again.
Krikken was delighted with Shropshire's performance, labelling it as "a real team effort" as they impressively bounced back from the disappointment of not qualifying for the knockout stages of the one-day Unicorns Trophy.
Krikken said: "It augurs well for going forward but we can't get carried away. We've got to go to Oxfordshire next, who won the division last year, and hopefully perform the same."
Krikken reserved special praise for the Shropshire bowling attack, with paceman Alex Wyatt taking 6-69 in the first innings before spinners Wainwright and McIver bowled excellently in the second innings.
"We bowled as a unit as well as I've seen us over the last couple of years," said Krikken.
