Strewth! Five of the best Ashes moments

This week marks the 22nd anniversary of the ball of the century as Shane Warne bamboozled Mike Gatting with his first Ashes delivery.

The stunning nature of the dismissal sparked more than 15 years of Australian dominance until England's resurgence in 2005.

Nathan Judah looks at five more memorable Ashes moments since 'that ball.'

1 More harm than good, Brisbane 2006-07

Much was made of Steve Harmison's hostile first ball in the 2005 Ashes series, which fizzed past Justin Langer and thudded into the gloves of Geraint Jones.

However, Harmison's opening delivery in the first Test of the 2006-7 series would be remembered for very different reasons .

It almost missed the wicket and was caught by Andrew Flintoff at second slip. Arguably the worst ball ever bowled under pressure.

2 A sporting cuddle for Brett, Edgbaston 2005

One of the greatest shows of sportsmanship there has ever been, Freddie Flintoff's kneel and embrace with Brett Lee after England's two-run victory will be remembered for a long time to come.

England should have won the game easily, but Lee's heroics with the bat had put the Aussies on course for a stunning victory before Harmison took the final wicket.

3 Making a Pratt out of Ricky, Trent Bridge 2005

England's fielding substitutions were coming under increased scrutiny as bowlers seemed to be getting a nice break in the dressing room to nurse slight 'injuries.'

Enter fielding replacement Gary Pratt who sensationally ran out Ponting from mid-wicket, sparking a huge strop from the Australian skipper.

4 Three and easy for Goughie, Sydney 1998-9

After Shane Warne's hat-trick in the 1994-5 series, nobody was expecting England to return the favour four years later. But Darren Gough did that with a stunning piece of fast bowling at the SCG.

Ian Healy was the first to depart after edging the ball to keeper Warren Hegg. Stuart MacGill didn't stand a chance with one of the Yorkshireman's trademark inswinging yorkers.

And when Goughie's out-swinging yorker to Colin Miller rocked the off stump, it sent the travelling fans wild.

5 Waugh finishes as he started - Sydney 2002-3

In his final Ashes Test, Steve Waugh entered the final over of the second day on 95 – and off-spinner Richard Dawson was powerless to stand in his path.

Waugh hit the fourth ball for three, received the strike back from Adam Gilchrist, and crunched the last one through extra-cover to a huge ovation.
