England host France at Wembley next month and in-form Jarvis could be included after another star turn in last night's gut-wrenching 3-2 Carling Cup defeat at Manchester United.
Visiting supporters at Old Trafford called for the 24-year-old to be called up and McCarthy knows Jarvis is in the international spotlight.
He said: "I was sat next to Fabio's assistant Baldini at Stoke on Sunday and he spoke highly of him.
"He's a terrific player and is really important for us. We're all delighted with him and there can't be too many better wingers around at the minute.
"He's very exciting going forward for us and is a lovely lad who has just got better and better. He just soaks up information and wants to improve all the time.
"I think the fans have recognised that he is playing very well."
But, despite the speculation, Jarvis insisted afterwards he is only focused on helping Wolves away from the Premier League drop zone. He said: "I'm making sure I'm playing well for Wolves but if anything else happens then fantastic."
The former Gillingham ace, who signed a new five-year deal last month, terrorised ex-England defenders Wes Brown and Gary Neville before being substituted late on.
And McCarthy said he cannot afford to lose his star man while he is in such good form.
"We brought him off because he was just starting to struggle and I want him fit for Saturday."
