Elokobi stayed on the bench all afternoon and Zubar did not figure at all, and McCarthy confirmed the pair would face further disciplinary action by the club.

McCarthy said: "They turned up late for the team meeting. If you don't turn up in time you don't play. Those two are rooming together and I'm waiting for them at twenty to one."

Blackburn triumphed 3-1 to record their first home win of the campaign with a comfortable victory over Wolves.

El-Hadji Diouf gave them the lead in the 19th minute when he took advantage of a defensive blunder by Michael Mancienne and raced 30 yards before slotting the opener through the legs of Wayne Hennessey.

Another Wolves error saw the hosts double their lead when Gael Givet was left unmarked in the box at Dunn's corner and his powerful header was deflected past Hennessey.

Rovers wrapped up the victory in the 65th minute when Jason Roberts burst clear and beat the advancing Hennessey before stumbling in front of goal and leaving David Dunn to slot home the third.

Stefan Maierhofer grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.

The Wolves boss admitted his disappointment at the way his side failed to take advantage of early openings, not least Christophe Berra who missed a simple fifth-minute chance.

McCarthy added: "I thought we started the game reasonably well and had the best chance but we gave the ball away and if you let Diouf go one-on-one it will end in tears.

Rovers had ridden their luck in the early stages when Christophe Berra missed a fifth minute sitter for the visitors but the recalled Diouf took advantage of a mistake by Michael Mancienne to race clear and strike the opener.

As confidence surged through the Rovers ranks, Dunn set up Keith Andrews to blast a shot straight at Hennessy and Morten Gamst Pedersen ended the first half by crashing a free-kick against the post.

Wolves started the second half well and provided one of the few plus points of a trying afternoon for Mick McCarthy in the unlikely form of 6ft 7.5in substitute striker Maierhofer.

His presence unsettled the Rovers rearguard until more shoddy defending at a set-piece allowed Gael Givet to get his head to Dunn's corner and Roberts was on hand to deflect the ball past Hennessey for No 2.

In the 65th minute Roberts did the hard work to burst through the Wolves defence and round Hennessey before stumbling as he sought to knock the ball into an empty net, allowing Dunn to tap home the simplest of chances.

Maierhofer got what his own performance deserved two minutes from time when he controlled a corner from Matthew Jarvis and poked home a consolation goal from the edge of the six-yard box.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce admitted he had felt pressure to produce three points.

Rovers headed into the game without a victory and with just one league goal to their credit after a shaky start to the season.

"I don't care what anybody says - the pressure really comes on you when you're still looking for your first win," said Allardyce.
