The in-form Latics are plotting a cup upset and will be hoping to take advantage of Wolves' slow starters in tomorrow's Molineux cup clash.

The League One outfit are the quickest side out of the traps in all of the English divisions - having scored first and gone into half-time ahead in an incredible eleven of their last 13 League and cup games.

Meanwhile Wolves have suffered for their slow starts and have only scored twice in the first half in their last eleven games.

To make matters worse, McCarthy's men have only been leading once at half-time, courtesy of Jemal Johnson's wonder strike against Sunderland in November.

Davies, whose family live in Telford, admits Wolves cannot afford to give Oldham a head start if they are to win the third round clash.

The 20-year-old forward, due to continue in the lone forward role, insists Wolves are starting to combat their slow starts.

"It has been a problem at times this season but I think we are getting over it. If you look at the last couple of games we have started a bit better.

"We need to start well every week - not just because they are a League One side who will be bang up for it and have their fans cheering them on.

"We're going into this competition to go far and not get turned over.

"The players have got to treat it as if we are playing West Brom because they are a good side who can cause us problems.

"As a group we haven't talked about starting better too much but it has obviously hindered us in some matches.

"I think we have been better over the Christmas period."

Tomorrow's game will give Davies another chance to impress boss McCarthy - who is actively searching for another striker.

His performances have been steadily improving since he made his full debut against Preston in August, and he reckons his display in Monday's victory against Barnsley was his best yet.

All that is missing is a goal - although he came close in Saturday's win over Barnsley.

"I don't think too much about the first goal too much it will knock my confidence and that is the one thing I don't want.

"I'm quite a confident person and I want to continue that way.

"I want to carry on and keep working hard -ÊI'm sure it will come."
