New Zealander Sarah and her builder partner built their stunning home to include an internal layout more commonly found in New Zealand and Australian homes.

The layout means the property has an open plan, light and airy feel, while another typical feature is having two sets of French doors out to a large deck in the back, landscaped garden.

And a high-ceilinged entrance hall also adds more glamour to the property. This was designed to bring the "maximum feeling of light and space," said Jeremy.nextpageHalf Mile House

It is a wonderful house for entertaining and would also be ideal for a family as it has a safe, large private rear landscaped garden and lies next to the local primary school.

Half Mile House, 72a Ellesmere Road, Shrewsbury is a stunning and absolutely immaculate home that is just 12 months old. As Jeremy and Sarah, an IT consultant, built it for themselves, only the best of materials were used.

They bought the plot two years ago, but weren't able to build until 18 months later due to waiting for permissions. It then took Jeremy six months to build.nextpageThe lounge

As the couple are now planning to move to France, to take on a renovation project, they have put the dormer bungalow up for sale through Barbers of Shrewsbury for offers in excess of £299,995.

An attractive property, Half Mile House is bigger than it looks from the outside and has the huge of advantage of being in a quiet position, down a private lane, and with a large rear garden, when most of the surrounding properties nearby have much smaller ones.

Sarah said: "It is called Half Mile House because it is literally only half a mile away from the town centre."nextpageThe lounge

The lounge is impressive and can easily accommodate a host of lounge furniture and dining room furniture, while still retaining a spacious feel.

The bungalow has an entrance hall, lounge/diner, breakfast room, kitchen, master bedroom with en suite bathroom (with skylight window over the bath so you can enjoy the stars from your tub) and dressing room, bedroom two with en suite bathroom, bedroom three and four and a family bathroom.nextpageThe kitchen

The kitchen has been specially designed by the couple to enable more than one cook to be busy in the kitchen.

One area of the kitchen has the oven etc while another area is designed for preparing food. The stylish, modern kitchen has soft-closing doors and fitted appliances include a fridge/freezer and dishwasher.

Half Mile House has double-glazing, gas central heating (with a highly efficient combination boiler) and the latest levels of insulation. It is superbly presented and its new owners could just move straight in.nextpageThe dining area

As Jeremy is a builder, he is always looking at what land is available for sale, and when he and Sarah found their plot of land it was "too good an opportunity to miss".

Sarah said: "The plot came with permission for this style dormer bungalow but we totally changed the internal design within the footprint. In New Zealand and Australia this is much more the style of house we're used to."

The land itself lies along the private lane to what was once Broom Hall, which was demolished in the 1960s. There are just two properties at the end of the lane and another one being built across from Half Mile House. No more houses will be built there.nextpageThe decked garden area

The stylish landscaped rear garden is mainly lawn with a large decked area, well stocked shrub and flower borders to the sides and a pathway leading to the bottom of the garden.

The garden is totally enclosed and a gate at the bottom leads to two parking spaces (a garage could be built there, subject to permissions).

Whoever buys Half Mile House will be getting something really unique.
