Transport for Wales said the line between the Shropshire county town and Welshpool has a defective track, resulting in the operator putting a speed restriction in place.

A spokesperson said delays were expected until lunchtime.

"Due to a speed restriction over defective track between Shrewsbury and Welshpool trains have to run at reduced speed. Train services running through these stations may be delayed. Disruption is expected until 1pm," the spokesperson said.
