Council bosses say the repairs in Telford are being carried out as part of ongoing work to make the borough a safer and better maintained place, and is positive news for residents.

Here are the roadworks taking place this summer

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s leader and cabinet member for neighbourhood services and pride programme, said: “However, I would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by this extensive programme of works.

“We have drawn up a schedule to keep disruption to a minimum as far as possible and I would like to thank everyone affected in advance for their patience and co-operation.”

The A41 at Woodcote Hollow will be closed in both directions between Pave Lane and the B4379 as work is carried out between Monday and Friday next week. This will affect the five-mile stretch between the A41 junction with the A518 and the A41 junction with the A5.

Diversions will be put in place via the A5, Redhill Way, Donnington Wood Way and the A518.

Work will also take place on Haybridge Road, from the fire station to Watling Street from Monday to August 4 – it will also be closed 24 hours a day. The Wrockwardine Wood Way to Wombridge Road junction will close from July 31 to August 4, with work to take place between 7.30am and 5.30am. Kemberton Road westbound will be entirely closed from August 7 to August 11.

Horsehay Roundabout will see work from August 14 to 25, with Bridge Road also to be closed during working hours from 7.30am to 5.30pm.

Castlefields Way will be closed 24 hours a day from August 7 to 25 and Holyhead Road, from Haygate Road to Roman Road B5061, will close from August 29 to September 15 in the day. All the work, which starts on Monday, will be weather dependent – meaning dates may be subject to change.

Telford & Wrekin Council says it has decided to carry out the majority of the programme during the summer holidays to reduce the impact on road users as much as possible.

Funding for the work has come from the council’s highways capital fund as part of its Pride In Our Community programme.

Road closures will be used at most sites as this allows for works to be completed quickly, safely and efficiently so that the period of disruption is minimised.

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout the works. Where closures are in force diversions will be in place and drivers are advised to follow the signed diversion routes for their safety and for the sake of local residents.

“We know that no-one likes roadworks but the top issue when we consult residents is always the state of the roads. These works will improve key roads around the borough and will eliminate the need for further temporary works in the future.”

It comes as drivers through Ironbridge will have their speed monitored to see if more needs to be done to improve road safety.

Speed bumps will be removed in the town while speeding is monitored, to see if new traffic calming measures are needed.

Speed indicator devices are now in place along The Wharfage as Telford & Wrekin Council decides whether new traffic calming is needed.
