Network Rail said issues had been caused by a faulty power cable at Cosford and that it would be investigating a solution which it hoped would be implemented overnight.

In the mean time they will power the signal with a temporary generator, meaning that services should get back to normal

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "There has been a problem with the power cable in that area, meaning there's a power failure to the signals.

"The cable is 3 and a half miles long, so we're now working to identify where the fault is.

"In the mean time we've got a generator out to power the faulty signal, and that will mean services will get back to normal soon.

"It shouldn't be too long, we've fixed it with a temporary solution, but a longer term solution should be put in place hopefully through the night."
