Rail passengers warned of delays during Edgbaston cricket fixture
Warwickshire are second in Division One
Crowds are expected to descend on Edgbaston this weekend as Warwickshire face Glamorgan in a key County Championship clash, bringing a busy few days for rail passengers travelling through Birmingham.
The match, taking place at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, is set to attract strong attendances from Friday, May 15 through to Monday, May 18, with supporters travelling across the West Midlands and beyond to watch the latest round of red-ball action.
Passengers using services between Birmingham New Street railway station and Five Ways railway station or University railway station are being advised to allow extra time for journeys, with trains and station platforms expected to be significantly busier than usual until Monday evening.
Transport officials say the increased demand is linked to cricket fans travelling to and from Edgbaston, which is one of the country’s best-supported county venues and regularly draws large crowds for Championship fixtures.
Warwickshire will be hoping to make home advantage count against Glamorgan as the County Championship season continues to gather pace heading into the summer months.
